A ridgetop inn above
Calder Hollow

Larkspur House has kept 16 rooms open above the village since 1924. Families book the corner suites for reunions, and couples ask for the porch rooms every October. On Sundays the dining room seats 60.

Rooms & Suites

Twelve rooms and four suites look down on Main Street, 300 feet below. Each suite adds a wood stove and a soaking tub deep enough for two.

The Glass Porch

Chef Anna Wells cooks from a 40-mile radius: Hocking County beef and pawpaws from the orchard behind the kitchen. In summer the porch windows slide open to the ridge.

Meetings & Retreats

Two rooms hold working groups of 12 to 40. The Ridge Room has a 10-foot screen and doors onto the lawn for breaks. Most retreat groups book Tuesday through Thursday, when weekday rates apply.

Weddings & Gatherings

Couples marry on the west lawn and dance in the barn hall, which seats 140. Showers and rehearsal dinners under 30 people fit the library room. Our coordinator walks each couple through the property twice before the date.

Calder Hollow

Calder Hollow grew up around a grist mill built in 1838. The mill still grinds cornmeal on Saturdays from May to October, and the general store sells it by the pound.

State forest surrounds the village on 9,000 acres, so two trailheads start within a mile of the inn. In 2025 the county made Main Street a historic district, which protects 31 storefronts from demolition.

Pawpaw cream pie, every September

Ohio pawpaws ripen for about three weeks each fall. Pastry chef Ruth Ames bakes 40 pies a day during that window and stops when the orchard runs out. Last year that happened on October 2.
